Quickgrass Artificial Grass Ground Preparation Video
As part of our series of Quickgrass Installation Videos, Richard talks us through the importance of artificial grass ground preparation and drainage.
0:06 here we see the weed suppressant
0:08 membrane
0:09 going down
0:11 on this particular job
0:12 they put the tight one hardcore down and
0:15 that’s putting the uh mypex heavy duty
0:19 on top of the
0:21 tight one and then we’ll be putting the
0:22 grano
0:24 on top of the weed suppressant
0:30 all right we can see here is the
0:32 granular grit stone
0:35 being levelled
0:36 right about 30 mil on this particular
0:39 job
0:40 50 mil to 30
0:42 mil you can see the way it blends in
0:47 up to the
0:48 quick edge
1:06 okay
1:24 um you ready to go ben silverstein
1:34 [Music]
1:51 [Music]
2:12 so what we’ve got now is the granular
2:15 grit stone
2:17 that’s now being put on top
2:19 of the type 1
2:23 up to the frame
2:25 so you can see how you can blend
2:28 the granular grid stone
2:30 right up to the edge
2:36 so
2:37 why do we have a sub base the reason
2:39 that we’re putting a sub base on
2:41 artificial grass is to allow good
2:42 drainage
2:44 so
2:44 what we’ve got on on this particular
2:46 garden is a type 1 stone around about 50
2:50 to 75 mil
2:53 we’ve taken the soil out and the grass
2:55 so you’ve got to replace that with
2:56 something because you’ll need the water
2:58 to go somewhere
3:00 this has been dug out
3:02 type 1’s gone in
3:04 after the type one’s gone in
3:06 we’ve whacked that down and we’ve put a
3:08 weed suppressant and a weed suppressant
3:10 is a permeable membrane which allows
3:13 water to go through but stops the weeds
3:15 coming up so it’s very important that
3:16 you need to put your membrane in without
3:18 your membrane nature will obviously take
3:21 its
3:22 place and weeds will start coming up so
3:25 you always put a membrane in so we’ve
3:27 put a tight one
3:28 we’ve put a permeable membrane and on
3:31 top of that we put what we call a grano
3:34 stone now a lot of you have asked what
3:36 is a grano stone so it’s a six mil so if
3:38 I put this into my hand you can see
3:41 you’ve got a six mil
3:42 grit stone
3:44 and dust so you got the dust and the
3:46 grit and you can see on here
3:48 when it’s put down and whacked
3:50 it makes it into a perfect
3:52 solution so it’s nice and compact and
3:55 flat
3:56 but the beauty of this is it’s very
3:58 permeable
3:59 so when the water goes onto the grass
4:01 it’s going to go through the grass the
4:03 grass will allow 60 litres per minute it
4:06 will go through the artificial grass
4:08 because it’s such a large amount of
4:09 water that’s allowed to take it will go
4:12 through this through the permeable
4:15 membrane and into the sub base
4:18 so from a family garden
4:20 if you get a lot of rain
4:23 the water needs to go somewhere so it’s
4:25 going to go through the product into the
4:27 sub base which then of course allows you
4:29 as a family to use your article grass
4:32 that much quicker
4:34 a standard garden
4:35 of course it rains and the mud will hold
4:38 that water in and it will take a lot
4:40 longer for that to go into the ground
4:42 this is the beauty of artificial grass
4:44 for families and for dogs
4:46 you can get on it and you can play on it
4:47 straight away
4:49 so this is the whole point of having a
4:50 good sub-bass structure
